His Royal Highness the Prince Regent, eldest son of George III and Queen Charlotte, invites you to join him for an evening of dancing and revelry at his majestic pavilion.
His Highness' ball includes a full evening of Regency dancing, that scandalous waltz, witty conversation, and our celebrated no host bar (Remember: If you go to Almack’s, all you’ll get is weak lemonade!).
Greenwich Mean Time, capital in their country dances, will play English country dances popular in the time of Jane Austen as well as some earlier country dance classics, the newly fashionable Quadrille, and a number of exquisite early 19th waltzes. And, of course, we will dance the wildly popular Congress of Vienna Waltz and Sir Roger de Coverley.
Don't know a hey for four from an allemande? Never fear! There will be a pre-ball workshop in Regency country dance from 7 to 8pm, and all country dances will be briefly taught and called at the ball. No partners needed either for the dance class or the ball. In true Regency fashion, most of us change partners frequently!
Late 18th century, early 19th century Regency (1811-1820), Romantic era costume, or modern evening dress is admired, but not required, Costumes and characters from both Jane Austen’s novels and films and the popular T.V. series “Bridgerton” are very welcome.
