Join us for a swinging 1920's dance party, inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s most famous novel, “The Great Gatsby.” The Oaktown Strutters will play dance music ranging from romantic waltzes, fox trots, and tangos to cool blues, hot Swing and that new dance sensation, the Charleston. There's something for everyone at Jay Gatsby’s grand ball.
At 7 pm, there will be a pre-ball workshop in One-Step, Slow Foxtrot, and East Coast Swing. Formal dancing continues from 8 pm to midnight with the fabulous Sara & Swingtime. No partners required! This is a great way to polish up your dance skills or to get some extra practice for tomorrow’s Gatsby Afternoon at Dunsmuir House.
1920’s or ‘30’s costume or vintage or modern evening dress is admired but not required. White tie or black tie optional. Socialites, show people, artists, and even politicians and underworld types are welcome but leave your "pieces" at home. This is a classy event! (And, besides, the Chief of Police never misses one of Mr. Gatsby’s parties!).
There will be a light snack buffet in the parlor, and (in defiance of Prohibition) a no-host (cash) bar outside the ballroom. Don’t worry: Both our Governor and the Chief of Police are good friends of Jay Gatsby!
